Lumen Field

The ground that became Lumen Field rose on the rubble of the Kingdome, brought down by a controlled implosion in March 2000. Within two years a new stadium stood on the same footprint — open-air and built for football.

Few grounds in American sport have changed names as often. Seahawks Stadium became Qwest Field, then CenturyLink Field, then Lumen Field in November 2020 — and for the 2026 World Cup, FIFA renamed it once more, to Seattle Stadium, for the tournament's duration. The pitch changed too: FieldTurf has covered it since opening, but a hybrid natural-grass surface went down for the World Cup matches, with the turf due back once the tournament left town.

The Seahawks crowd holds the Guinness World Record for outdoor stadium noise, set twice, peaking at 137.6 decibels in 2013. Seattle Sounders FC and Seattle Reign FC share the venue with the NFL side, and the stadium has hosted MLS Cup finals, a Concacaf Champions League final, and six group-stage matches at the 2026 World Cup. Its all-time attendance record, though, belongs to neither football code: Ed Sheeran drew 77,286 in August 2023, ahead of the mark Seattle Sounders and Inter Miami set two years later in the Leagues Cup final.
