About the player
The defender, whose full name is João Miguel Xavier Ferreira dos Santos, has since extended his contract until 2028. Before Penafiel he moved often, mostly staying a season or two at a time.
He started in the under-19 side of Leixões SC, where he played from 2012 to 2014. His longest spell before Penafiel came at Leça FC, who kept him for three years until 2017. SC Salgueiros followed for a season. Anadia FC had him from January to July 2018, and FC Cesarense for the 2018–19 season. He spent the next two years at União de Leiria, from 2019 to 2021.
2021 was his busiest year. He was registered with CD Mafra and with FC Argeș Pitești, and the moves between the two clubs were free transfers. In July 2022 he signed for Penafiel.
His most recent season, 2025/26, brought 25 matches without a goal or an assist, and two yellow cards. He is right-footed. He has no senior international appearances and has won no trophies or individual awards.
