Bamboutos

Mbouda sits in Cameroon's West Region, and it was there, in 1966, that a club took shape to carry the town's name into the national game. Bamboutos have carried that weight through six decades, drifting in and out of Elite One as the town's football fortunes rose and fell: relegated in 2007, back in 2014 under Gérard Mbimi, down again in 2017, promoted after finishing third in Elite Two the following year, and settled in the top flight since 2020.

Their best spell came early. In 2004 Bamboutos won the first UNIFFAC Clubs Cup, then carried that form into the CAF Confederation Cup, reaching the second round the following year. Domestically, silverware has been harder to come by: two Cameroon Cup finals lost, to APEJES de Mfou in 2016 and to Coton Sport de Garoua in 2022. That second final defeat was avenged months later, when Bamboutos beat the same Coton Sport 1-0 in the inaugural Trophée des Champions, Eugène Patrice Ejenguele scoring the only goal.

Locally they are known as Les Mangwa Boys, though the nickname printed on official records is Le fer de l'ouest — the iron of the west, a fitting tag for a side built on staying power rather than a run of trophies. They play in red and blue at the Stade de Mbouda.

The ground itself explains something about the club's story: renovation work has left its listed capacity moving between 5,000 and 12,000 depending on which stage of construction is being counted, the same unevenness that has marked Bamboutos on the pitch since 1966.
