The club was founded on 20 May 1922.

Two years later, in 2018/19, Grafičar won the Serbian League "Belgrade" and reached the Serbian First League for the first time in its history. It very nearly went further: a second-place finish in 2019/20 earned the right to play in the Superliga, and the club turned it down. A third-place finish in 2022/23 sent it into the promotion play-offs instead, where Radnik Surdulica won 3:1.

Goran Bunjevčević followed a similar path out of the club, via Rad and Crvena Zvezda, into a career at Tottenham Hotspur and PSV and into the Yugoslavia national side.

Vojvodina ended the run 2:1 in the semi-final. The Superliga place it turned down in 2020 remains the one thing the club has not gone back for.
