Hønefoss BK

Remond Mendy, a Senegalese striker, scored 14 goals in the 2011 1. divisjon. Those goals took Hønefoss BK to the title and back into the Eliteserien. It was the club's second promotion in three seasons, after the one from the same division in 2009, the year the stadium, now called AKA Arena, was renovated.

The top flight did not last. Relegation came in 2013, and what followed was a slide with no floor in sight. Financial trouble and a lack of continuity wore the squad down, and by 2018 the team was playing in the 3. divisjon. Six years later, in 2024, they won Group 6 of that division.

The name on the shirt has changed more often than the town. The roots go back to IF Liv, formed on 4 February 1895. In 1987 it merged with Fossekallen IF as Liv/Fossekallen, which later became L/F Hønefoss. Under that name the club was promoted from the 2. divisjon in 1998. The present name, Hønefoss BK, dates from 2002. Supporters know the team as Hønsa, "the Chickens", and the colours are white at home and black away.

Two clubs from the region, Notodden FK and Raufoss IL, are the nearest rivals, though the fixtures have no name of their own. In the Norwegian Cup the best run came in 2005, when Hønefoss reached the semi-finals and went no further. The club has not yet played a final.
