In Bobo-Dioulasso, ASF Bobo-Dioulasso, founded in 1948, and RC Bobo-Dioulasso, founded in 1949, have both won national titles more than once. Matches between the city's clubs are called the Bobo-Dioulasso derby.
Maya arrived in 1995. It has won neither the league nor the Coupe du Faso. The club's ceiling has been the cup quarter-final, which it reached in 2011/12 and again in 2018/19.
The league has been harder to hold. Maya has moved between the Première Division and the Deuxième Division, and the step up to the top flight came for the 2009/10 season. Rahim Ouédraogo, who won 21 caps for Burkina Faso and played in the Netherlands and Turkey, is the club's main financial backer, and he helped push that promotion through in 2009.
Michel Batiébo led the line in 2016/17 and later earned three caps for Burkina Faso. Sami Hien, a defensive midfielder, played there in 2017/18 and went on to appear for the national side, including at the 2021 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Home games are at the 10,000-capacity Stade Wobi.
