Alejandro Duarte

Alejandro Christoph Duarte Preuss was born in Munich and holds dual Peruvian-German citizenship, though he has built his career, and his international career, on the Peruvian side. He started out at Juan Aurich before moving through Cienciano, Deportivo Municipal and Universidad San Martín de Porres, then took his goalkeeping abroad to Mexico with Lobos BUAP and Atlético Zacatepec. A spell at FC Juárez included a loan to Sportivo Luqueño in Paraguay before he returned home in 2021 to sign for Sporting Cristal on a free transfer.

That move produced the best form of his career. He won the Copa Bicentenario with Cristal in 2021 and, in 2022, kept 11 clean sheets in 27 Liga 1 appearances. Not everything at the club went smoothly: during the Torneo Clausura he was dropped by coach Guillermo Farré after a mistake in a match against ADT.

When his contract at Cristal expired, Duarte joined Alianza Lima on a free transfer, winning the Torneo Apertura with his new club and recording 10 clean sheets in 24 Liga 1 matches that season.

At international level, Duarte was called up to the Peru squad in March 2018 for friendlies against Croatia and Iceland and has picked up further call-ups for qualifiers and friendlies since, though he was left out of Peru's squad for the 2018 World Cup and has remained a backup option in goal.
