Diego Melián

Sport Boys signed Diego Melián as a free agent on 5 January 2026, bringing in a goalkeeper who had spent the previous two seasons at Alianza Atlético. The Uruguayan had already built a career across two countries by the time he arrived in Peru: he came through Danubio's academy in Montevideo, made his senior debut there in 2012, and had a loan spell at Huracán before settling at Racing Club de Montevideo, where he stayed from 2014 to 2019 and made around 64 appearances.

His move to Peru in January 2020 proved the turning point. At Deportivo Municipal he had his best individual spell, playing 88 matches and being named the Peruvian Liga 1's Best Goalkeeper for the 2020 season. He was also picked for the Liga 1 Best XI and the Ideal Eleven that year.

He carried that form into his time at Alianza Atlético, where he arrived on a free transfer after his Municipal contract expired and later renewed for the 2024 season. Figures on his exact appearance total there vary, but he was a regular enough presence to record 14 clean sheets in 31 games during one stretch with the club.

Now at Sport Boys, Melián brings a decade of first-team goalkeeping across Uruguay and Peru, including a league-recognised season.
