About the player
Fernando Marçal came up through Grêmio's youth ranks before starting out at Americana and making his senior bow at Guaratinguetá in 2009. From there he worked his way through Portuguese football, via Torreense and Nacional, until Benfica signed him in 2015 — a spell interrupted by loans to Gaziantepspor and Guingamp.
A €2 million move took him to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020, before he returned to Brazil in 2022, joining Botafogo on a free transfer.
It is at Botafogo that Marçal has found his most decorated form. He won the Taça Rio in both 2023 and 2024, and 2024 also brought the club's Campeonato Brasileiro Série A title and the Copa Libertadores. Those triumphs sit alongside the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira he won with Benfica back in 2016.
Marçal has not been capped by Brazil at senior level.
