Eagles

The Eagles' most recent title came in the 2024 season, when they beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40–22 in Super Bowl LIX and Jalen Hurts was named MVP. It was the second Super Bowl for the franchise. The first came after the 2017 season, when Nick Foles led them past the New England Patriots 41–33 in Super Bowl LII. The Eagles had already lost to New England in the same game after the 2004 season, and to the Oakland Raiders after the 1980 season.

Before the Super Bowl existed, the club won three NFL Championships, in 1948, 1949 and 1960. The first two belong to the Greasy Neale era, which ran from 1941 to 1960 and produced the running back Steve Van Buren, whose number 15 is retired. Chuck Bednarik, known as "Concrete Charlie", played centre and linebacker and wears 60 on the club's roll of retired numbers.

Bert Bell and Lud Wray started the franchise in 1933 by buying the rights to the bankrupt Frankford Yellow Jackets. The early years were unsettled: the team moved through six grounds in all, from the Baker Bowl to Veterans Stadium. In 1943 wartime player shortages forced a one-season merger with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the combined side was called the Steagles.

Jeffrey Lurie bought the team in 1994 for $185 million. Under Andy Reid, from 1999 to 2012, the Eagles won the NFC East in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 and reached that second Super Bowl. Rivals in the NFC East, the Cowboys, Giants and Commanders, are the opponents the Eagles face twice every season.
