Lyn

Lyn hold the record for Norwegian Cup wins with eight, a haul that started with four straight victories from 1908 to 1911 and closed with back-to-back wins in 1967 and 1968. The second of those, in 1968, came alongside the league title, giving the club a double it had chased since its first championship four years earlier, in 1964.

The club traces back to 3 March 1896, when it formed as a skiing and football club — one of the oldest sports clubs in Norway, built around winter sport as much as the round ball, before also taking in bandy and figure skating. Football is what carried the name furthest.

Lyn spent decades at Ullevaal Stadion, the national team's home ground, before moving in 2014 to Bislett Stadion, an arena long associated with Norwegian sport more broadly and holding 15,400 for football. The shirts are red and white, worn with blue shorts, and the nickname — Lyn, meaning "lightning" — needs no translation for supporters, though it is sometimes written as Lyn Oslo to keep it apart from Gjøvik-Lyn.

Local rivalry in Oslo means the fixtures against the city's other clubs carry weight that league position alone does not explain — matches where the shared ground, in Lyn's case a relatively recent one, and the shared city do the rest of the work.
