Zürich Women

The 2025 Swiss Cup went to a side that had not won the league title for two seasons. That gap matters more than the trophy: between 1980 and 2023 the Zurich women won 24 championships.

The team grew out of a section of SV Seebach, formed in April 1970. An earlier attempt at women's football in the city, DFC Zürich, had come and gone. The Seebach women were split off in 2005 as FFC Zürich Seebach, and in the summer of 2008 they merged with FC Zürich and took the name they carry now. The first championship under that name came the same season.

Fabienne Humm arrived in 2009, a year after the merger, and stayed until 2024. She finished with 402 appearances and 307 goals, both club records, and captained the side from 2013 until she retired. Naomi Mégroz wears the armband now.

The exits came close together. Seraina Piubel left for West Ham in 2024 after eight seasons in midfield; Julia Stierli went to Freiburg the same summer, having joined as a teenager in 2014. Nadine Riesen had already gone to Frankfurt a year earlier.

Home is the Sportanlage Heerenschürli, a municipal ground in the east of the city with a few hundred seats. The city parliament has debated a new stadium partly on the argument that women's football needs one.

Europe has been the limit. Twelve entries into the Champions League since 2008/09 have produced four last-16 appearances — 2013/14, 2014/15, 2016/17 and 2018/19 — and nothing beyond. Domestically the club has 12 doubles.
