ABA Supercup (EU) 2023/24

The ABA League Supercup is a pre-season men’s professional basketball tournament organized by the ABA League JTD. It serves as an overture to the main ABA League First Division season, typically taking place in September or October. Unlike the main league, which features all member clubs in a long regular season and playoffs, the Supercup is a short, elite knockout tournament involving a selective field of approximately eight teams. These participants usually comprise the previous season’s league champion, runner-up, national cup winners, and host nation representatives.

It was founded in 2017, with the inaugural edition held in Bar, Montenegro. The competition has faced irregularities in its schedule. It was held in 2017, 2018, and 2019. The 2020 edition was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and no tournaments were held in 2021 or 2022. The competition resumed in 2023, hosted in Podgorica, Montenegro. There is conflicting information regarding the 2024 and 2025 editions; some sources indicate the 2023–24 season Supercup was won by Studentski Centar (SC Derby) in September 2023, while other reports suggest no tournament was held in 2024 or 2025, with the 2023 edition being the most recent confirmed winner. However, widely reported results confirm Studentski Centar defeated Partizan Mozzart Bet 83–81 in the 2023 final (for the 2023–24 season). Kenan Kamenjaš was named MVP of the 2023 tournament.

Historical winners include Cedevita (2017), Crvena zvezda (2018), Partizan (2019), and Studentski Centar (2023). No club has won the title more than once. The 2017 final was won by Cedevita defeating Budućnost 78–69. The 2018 final saw Crvena zvezda beat Budućnost 89–75. The 2019 final was won by Partizan against Cedevita Olimpija 99–77. The 2023 final featured Studentski Centar vs. Partizan. The competition distinguishes itself from the ABA League First Division by its pre-season timing, shorter format, and selective participation, whereas the First Division is the primary regional championship involving all member clubs from countries such as Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, North Macedonia, and recently expanding to include teams from Austria, Romania, and the UAE.
