The Argentine Basketball Super Cup is the opening trophy of the domestic season, contested as a single match between the previous year’s LNB champions and the winners of the Copa Súper 20. The tournament was established in 2016 to provide a high-stakes pre-season finale, sitting just outside the regular Apertura and Clausura campaigns and the national cup competition. Organised by the Liga Nacional de Básquet through the Asociación de Clubes, the fixture brings together the top clubs in Argentine basketball to decide the opening honour of the calendar year.
The format is straightforward: one game, no replays, no aggregates. The participants are determined by performance in the preceding competitive windows. If the Copa Súper 20 is not held or merged, the LNB runner-up takes the opposing spot. This structure ensures that the cup remains a test of quality against the most successful sides of the previous twelve months.
San Lorenzo claimed the inaugural title in 2016 and repeated the feat in 2018, defeating both Regatas Corrientes and San Martín de Corrientes in separate editions. Following a hiatus in 2019 and 2020 due to the pandemic, Quimsa entered a period of dominance, securing victories in 2021, 2022 and 2023 against opponents including San Lorenzo and Gimnasia CR. Boca Juniors halted that run by beating Quimsa 90–75 in the 2024 edition.
The 2025 final was scheduled between Boca Juniors and Instituto de Córdoba in March 2026. While the fixture was set, the outcome has not been definitively confirmed in available records. The competition involves a core group of clubs from Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Comodoro Rivadavia, maintaining a focus on the established hierarchy of Argentine basketball rather than expanding into lower tiers.
It operates independently of the football Supercopa Argentina, which is governed by the Asociación del Fútbol Argentino. The basketball edition serves strictly as a seasonal opener, distinguishing itself from the league’s mid-year playoffs and the broader national cup structure.
