Polish Cup (Poland) 2026/27

The Polish Basketball Cup stands as the second-most important domestic title for senior men’s clubs in Poland, trailing only the Polish League (PLK/Orlen Basket Liga) championship. Founded in 1933 by the Polish Association of Sports Games (Polski Związek Gier Sportowych, PZGS), the tournament began its inaugural season in 1933–34. Since the 2023/24 campaign, it has operated under the official name Pekao SA Puchar Polski following a sponsorship agreement. The event is currently organized by the Polish Basketball League (PLK) alongside the Polish Basketball Federation (PZKosz).

The competition structure relies on a “Final Eight” (Turniej Finałowy) format adopted since 2012. This single-elimination tournament takes place over four days, usually in February, featuring quarter-finals, semi-finals, and a final. Qualification is restricted to the top eight teams from the first half of the PLK regular season, with the host club receiving an automatic spot if not already included. Lower-division teams from the I Liga are excluded from participation, making the tournament exclusive to top-tier clubs. The weekend often includes a Slam Dunk Contest and a 3-Point Contest.

Śląsk Wrocław holds the record for success, having claimed 14 titles since the competition’s inception. Other clubs with multiple victories include Anwil Włocławek and Trefl Sopot. The final tournament has been hosted in Sosnowiec for several consecutive seasons under a contract extending through 2027. The winner qualifies for European competitions, typically entering the FIBA Europe Cup or potentially the Basketball Champions League or EuroCup depending on FIBA regulations and league performance. This trophy is distinct from the Polish Super Cup, which is a pre-season match between the PLK champion and the Cup winner.
