Gornik Walbrzych

The Hala Widowiskowo-Sportowa AQUA ZDRÓJ holds 2,000 people.

The basketball section began on 22 March 1946, one branch of a multi-sport club formed in the town's reconstruction after the war. Wałbrzych had built its name on glass and coal.

Górnik's best years came in the 1980s. The club won the Polish Championship in 1982 and 1988, either side of three runner-up finishes in 1981, 1983 and 1986. Mieczysław Młynarski was the team's leading man, topping the league's scoring charts four times between 1980 and 1984, taking the MVP award in 1981, and being picked for six All-Star games. He later returned to the club as a coach.

Peak, the championships did not come again for decades. The current squad, working under coach Andrzej Adamek, plays without a rival inside Wałbrzych itself; the nearest local contest is with MKS Basket Promet Szczawno-Zdrój, a neighbouring spa town rather than a corner of the same city.
