Maroussi BC — Mykonos: 79:82, Basket League

Marussi BC fell to Mikonos 79-82 in the Basketball League on Friday evening, October 10th. The visitors took advantage of a sloppy opening period to build a cushion that held up despite a spirited second-half push from the hosts. It was a narrow margin that separated the two sides after 40 minutes of play.

By then the result had already shifted the table dynamics, if only slightly. Marussi remain 12th with 24 games played, six wins and 18 defeats, while Mikonos sit seventh with nine victories and 15 losses. And here's the thing about these standings — one game rarely changes a season, but it can alter momentum.

Marussi had come off a heavy defeat to AEK Athens 70-91 on October 3rd, a result that paid for a sloppy opening. Mikonos, meanwhile, had lost to PAOK 85-88 just a day after beating Neftchi Baku 78-58. Both sides were looking for consistency, and neither found it in full measure.

The statistics tell a story of contrasting approaches. Marussi shot 28 of 63 from the field and 10 of 26 from three, while Mikonos managed 27 of 58 overall and 11 of 31 from deep. The visitors won the rebounding battle 32-27, which proved decisive in a game where possession mattered. Both teams committed 15 turnovers, but Mikonos took better care of the ball when it counted.

Free throws separated the two sides further. Mikonos converted 17 of 21 attempts, while Marussi made 13 of 17. Things came to a head in the final minutes when those extra points from the line became the difference between victory and defeat. The hosts threw everything at it in the closing stages, but the visitors had already clawed their way back from an early deficit and held firm.
