Gary Payton: Bring Kevin Durant Back to Seattle
The SuperSonics legend says Seattle's revived NBA franchise should pursue Durant before he gets too old, pointing to LeBron James still performing at 42.
Gary Payton has set out what he expects from the return of the Seattle SuperSonics, saying the club should try to bring Kevin Durant back before he is "too old".
"We're going to bring back a lot of people. We're going to give our fans what they've been waiting for since the '90s, when we were the talk of the league. We're going to bring that back. I guarantee it. It's all coming back, we just have to bring it back. You know what I mean? And you know my son was born here. So we're bringing him back too. And we're going to try to bring back Durant, before he gets too old. We're going to have a lot of fun here, but we're going to be competitive too. We're not going to have a team of old men, but we're definitely going to try to compete and put it together to get back to that level. Durant can talk his trash if he wants. If he can put the ball in the basket for us, I don't care what he does. As long as he's scoring. You see what LeBron is doing at 42? You know what I mean? In two years Durant will be about that age, a little younger, but it's going to be great. It's all going to be good," said Payton.
The NBA is expected to expand in the coming years, with a new franchise in Las Vegas and a revived Seattle club among the additions under discussion.
The SuperSonics' history currently belongs on paper to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who inherited the franchise's record when the club relocated from Seattle in 2008.
