Lakers to Cut Ticket Brokers, Raise Prices 70%
New Lakers owner Josh Kushner plans dynamic pricing modeled on Mark Walter's Dodgers approach, pushing average ticket prices from $217 to $361 by 2028.
The Lakers plan to cut out ticket brokers entirely and set prices themselves, according to a Wall Street Journal report on the new ownership's plans.
Josh Kushner, who is working to push the club's valuation to $30 billion, intends to follow the approach used by Mark Walter at the Dodgers. Walter, the Dodgers' owner and a former Lakers owner, removed middlemen from baseball ticket sales and moved to dynamic pricing. Kushner plans to do the same with the Lakers.
The club will stop guaranteeing wholesale ticket blocks to brokers and will instead control retail pricing directly. The average ticket price is set to rise from $217 to $361 over the next two seasons — growth of almost 70%.
The Lakers filled 99.8% of capacity over the course of last season.
