Nicolas Batum announces retirement from basketball at 37
The Frenchman ends an 18-year NBA career with Portland, Charlotte, Philadelphia and the Clippers, and says he will stay involved in the game after retiring.
Nicolas Batum has announced his retirement from basketball at the age of 37.
The Frenchman made the announcement in a video posted on social media, saying he would stay involved in the game. He dedicated the video to his late father, who died of an aneurysm during a basketball game in 1991, when Nicolas was about two. The announcement came exactly 35 years after his father's death.
Batum spent 18 years in the NBA with Portland, Charlotte, Philadelphia and the Clippers. His best season was 2016/17 with the Hornets, when he averaged 15.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.9 assists a game. He played 1,205 regular-season games in the league.
For France he is among the most decorated players in the national team's history: two Olympic silver medals, two World Cup bronzes, and gold, silver and bronze at EuroBasket.
