Utah traded Walker Kessler partly because his camp convinced the Jazz he would take the qualifying offer and leave in free agency, according to insider Marc Stein. The price Los Angeles offered was not the only factor.
The centre went to the Lakers in a sign-and-trade on a 4-year contract worth $130m.
The Jazz received unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, plus the right to swap picks in 2028 and 2030.
