Lakers Prioritize Luka Dončić Extension This Season
ESPN's Brian Windhorst says the Lakers see this season as key to positioning themselves for a Luka Dončić contract extension talk.
Lakers insider Brian Windhorst says the club is treating this season as central to their plans for a Luka Dončić contract extension, according to comments on the Hoop Collective podcast.
"Now is the time to discuss an extension. I'll tell you that the Lakers understand very well: by the end of the season, the team needs to be in a good position with Luka to secure an extension. The Lakers have a lot of different goals for the coming season. This one isn't at the top of the list, but the front office recognises its importance. I think that's why the club felt it necessary to give him certain support," Windhorst said.
Dončić's current deal runs for two more seasons, after which he holds a player option for 2028/29.
