Alexis Canete

Alexis Cañete made his name at Nacional Asunción, where a move from Rubio Ñú in January 2024 put him in a back line that took on continental football, with appearances in both the Copa Sudamericana and the Copa Libertadores. He left without a domestic title to his name, but the international exposure marked him out, and in July 2026 he joined Cerro Porteño, presented as the club's third reinforcement for the second half of that season.

The move to Cerro Porteño has already produced a moment he will be remembered for: a goal in the Superclásico against Olimpia. For a defender still early in his career, scoring in that match is the kind of result that sticks regardless of what else follows in the campaign.

Cañete has yet to add a first-team cap for the Paraguay national side to his résumé.
