About the player
José Tapia's path to Chilean football's top flight ran through a single club.
His debut came under unusual circumstances. On 6 April 2024, in a Primera B fixture against Universidad de Concepción, Tapia was sent on in the 78th minute after the starting goalkeeper was sent off. That season ended with the club winning the Primera B title and earning promotion to the Primera División, giving the young goalkeeper a place in a promotion-winning squad.
He has since kept his place in Deportes La Serena's squad at the higher level, including a call-up for the 2025 Copa Chile campaign. In the 2026 Primera División season he has made nine appearances, keeping two clean sheets and conceding 14 goals.
