About the player
Óscar Romero came through Cerro Porteño's youth ranks and had a spell with Boca Juniors' Sub-15 side in Argentina before returning home, and went on to earn a regular place in the Paraguay squad, scoring four goals and appearing at the 2015, 2019 and 2021 Copa América tournaments.
His club career has moved in smaller steps. After leaving Guaraní on a free transfer, he joined Sportivo Ameliano in July 2021 and stayed until November 2024, then signed for Club Sportivo 2 de Mayo in January 2025, again as a free agent. At 2 de Mayo he has become a key figure in the side's push in the 2026 Torneo Clausura, helping the team to the top of the table. In July 2026 he scored the decisive goal in a match against Cerro Porteño, the club where his career began.
Romero has also featured for 2 de Mayo in the 2026 Copa Paraguay and in Copa Libertadores qualifying, where he converted a penalty in the shootout against Sporting Cristal.
