Eryaman Stadium holds a little over 20,000, a modest number for a club that once filled a much older ground in the centre of Ankara. The 19 Mayıs Stadium, demolished in 2018, had carried MKE Ankaragücü through most of the twentieth century; Eryaman, out on the edge of the capital, is where the club has had to build new habits since.

The name on the shirt today points to a state arms manufacturer rather than a founder or a district, and the club's badge still carries a bullet, a mark left over from the İmalât-ı Harbiye factory that once employed the men who ran the side. Before any of that, in 1910, two Istanbul clubs, Turan Sanatkarangücü and Altınörs İdman Yurdu, existed separately under Şükrü Abbas and Agah Orhan. They merged and moved to Ankara in 1923, and the club spent the following decades restyled and renamed as it changed hands, until the Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation took it over in 1969 and gave it the name it carries now.

A single Turkish championship, in 1949, sits alongside two Turkish Cups from the 1970s and 1980s, but the club has never gone all the way in the Süper Lig itself; its best years there, in the early 2000s, brought fourth place and no higher. Hakan Kutlu holds the appearance record, built up over fourteen years in yellow and navy blue, the colours that give the club its nickname, Sarı Lacivertliler.

Across the city, Gençlerbirliği remains the opponent that matters most; the Ankara Derby still draws the sharper edge from supporters on both sides. MKE Ankaragücü's more recent business has been in the second tier, where a third 1. Lig title in 2022 pointed back toward the top flight it has spent much of the last two decades trying to hold onto.
