Brussels Basketball

Brussels Basketball has spent recent seasons in the top flight without ever quite breaking through, and the club's history still turns on a single near-miss: the 2017 final, lost 3-1 to BC Ostende. Two further semi-final runs in the Belgian Cup, in 2017 and 2019, mark the ceiling the club has reached since, along with brief appearances in the Basketball Champions League and the FIBA Europe Cup group stage.

The team began in 1958 as the basketball section of Excelsior de Bruxelles, registered under number 959, and carried the Excelsior name for over half a century before a run of sponsor rebrandings — Basic-Fit, Phoenix, Circus — eventually gave way to the current Brussels Basketball. The nickname L'Excel outlasted all of it, a trace of the original name still used by supporters regardless of what the shirt says.

Home games are played at the Complexe Sportif de Neder-Over-Heembeek, though for bigger nights the club shifts to the ING Arena, formerly known as Palais 12, where 6,700 can fit in for basketball.

No Belgian league title, no Cup, no Super Cup — the trophy case stays empty, which makes the club's list of names sent through the professional ranks and into European leagues and the NBA G League all the more notable.

Serge Crèvecoeur has coached the club across three separate spells — 2008 to 2017, 2018 to 2020, and again since 2023 — long enough that his return each time has read less as a new appointment than as the club going back to what it knows.
