In the second tier, matches against CSM Galați carry the weight of a derby. There is little else to measure the club against: it has no past to draw on, since the previous CSM Iași side folded in 2019 under financial strain, and nothing from that history — no trophies, no records — passed to what replaced it.

That replacement came from the city council, which set up the new club in January 2020. Handball did not begin there straight away; the section only started training in late 2021 and was formally established in 2022. The team spent its first two seasons in Divizia A, the second tier, before winning promotion in 2024 to the Liga Națională, Romania's top flight.

The roster reflects how quickly the project has been assembled from abroad: goalkeepers Alexandra Ivanytsia and Fatemeh Khalili arrived from Slovakia and Iran respectively, while the back court carries players such as Juliana Lima from Brazil and Szilvia Szabó from Hungary.

Iași plays in red and blue at the Sala Polivalentă "Dan Constantin Irimiciuc", which holds 2,000. The club carries no nickname of note; locally it is simply called Iași women's handball, a name plain enough to match an institution still closer to its founding than to any history of its own.
