JuRo Unirek Women

Members built the hall themselves in 1989, work that replaced the outdoor courts the team had used until then. It stands on Rijdersstraat.

The club traces back to a request nobody expected to matter much: women from a local sewing school asked Arie Groot to set up a handball team, and on 18 April 1948 he did, with membership costing 0.15 guilders. The name VZV comes from 't Veld Zijdewind Vooruit, and it has stuck through years of sponsor changes — Maedilon/V.Z.V. among them — before the club settled on its current identity, JuRo Unirek/V.Z.V.

Promotion in 1991/92 through the Eerste Divisie put the team into the Eredivisie, where it has stayed since. In Europe, VZV beat KH-7 BM Granollers 26-25 in the first leg of their EHF Challenge Cup tie in 2019/20 and went through to the quarter-finals, and reached the last 16 of the EHF European Cup in 2024/25 after seeing off HB Dudelange.

It is still, in the end, a hall the members built with their own hands, for a team that started because a group of women wanted somewhere to play.
