Kärra HF won the 2020/21 Damallsvenskan title and went back up to the Handbollsligan, its third promotion to the top flight after spells in 2009–2011 and 2012–2013; a year later the club was relegated again and has played its handball in Allsvenskan since.

The handball section started in 1958 inside Kärra IF, a multi-sport club, and only became its own association, Kärra Handbollförening, in 1993. Therese Wislander came through that youth system and played for the senior side from 2002 to 2010.

Matches against Önnereds HK are billed locally as the Gothenburg derby.

The team plays in black and yellow at Lillekärrshallen, a hall that holds 600 and seats 500 of them during matches.
