AIK Women

When Väntorp/Solna IK merged into AIK, the multi-sport club found itself with a handball hall and no handball to put in it. The section had been founded in 1943 on the initiative of Nils-Yngve Bolling and had gone dormant in 1980. In 2003 it was restarted, and Jan-Erik Pettersson used the moment to set up a women's section as a separate entity.

The women started from nothing. Their home is Solnahallen on Ankdammsgatan, and when the schedule requires it they move to Råsta Park, Tallbacka or Västertorp. The colours are black and yellow, the nickname Gnaget.

Much of the current squad came through the club's own academy, among them Frida Sjöberg and Irma Jernström. Olivia Mansnérus arrived in 2023 from Strands IF, and Caroline Kallio was brought in on loan from Skånela IF. Sarah "Frasse" Fransson coaches them.

The result of that work came in the 2023/2024 season, when the team won Division 1 Norra and went up to the Allsvenskan, the second tier of Swedish women's handball. In the 2025/2026 season they reached the quarter-finals of the ATG Svenska Cupen. The nearest rival is Hammarby IF HF.

The women have won neither the Swedish Championship nor the Swedish Cup.
