Redbergslids Women

In Gothenburg, Redbergslids IK's handball players measure themselves against neighbours rather than distant champions: fixtures with IK Sävehof, Kungälvs HK, Torslanda HK and Önnereds HK carry the label Göteborgsderby, and it is that local weight, not a league table, that gives the women's section its edge. The men's side has spent decades collecting Swedish Championships and a European Cup from 1959; the women have never lifted a national title.

That climb has been steady lately. Redbergslids went through Dam 2 Väst unbeaten in 2023/2024, placed fourth in Division 1 Södra the following season, then won their way past Eskilstuna Guif and IFK Örebro in the play-offs to reach Allsvenskan for 2025/2026. The side was built partly around the Dano sisters, Emma at right back and Anna in goal.

The nickname predates all of it. In the 1950s the team became known as "De vita eleganterna" — the White Elegants — a name earned less for silverware than for how the players carried themselves on court and their habit of turning out in pressed shorts; the supporters later adopted the same word, Eleganterna, for themselves.

The section itself dates to 1935, nineteen years after the wider club was founded, when Redbergslids first put a women's team on the court.
