Karlskrona HF Women

Handball in Karlskrona grew out of a multi-sport club. Hästö IF, formed on 23 January 1938, had a women's handball section among its activities.

The youth work was the first part to come together. In 2013 the junior sections of Hästö IF, IFK Karlskrona, HK Eklöven and Flottans IF were merged into one organisation, Karlskrona Handboll. Hästö IF was renamed HIF Karlskrona the following year. The two strands joined on 1 July 2022 as HF Karlskrona, and the women's team plays under that banner in the Damallsvenskan, the second tier of Swedish women's handball. It fills the 2,500-seat BrinovaArena with black and yellow.

The club's main rival is IFK Karlskrona, and matches between them are known as the "Karlskronaderbyt". That rivalry changed in 2025, when IFK paused its senior teams and HF Karlskrona took in their players.

Karl-Johan Lång coaches the women's side. Among the players who came through the academy is centre back Vera Loudd, a homegrown talent. Right wing Elsa Ilvell has been capped at U20 level, and Thea Lilja, also a right wing, has played for Sweden at U17 and U18 level. Goalkeeper Anna Danielsson has been capped at U16.

The women's team has no national title to its name. The club's weight lies elsewhere: it is the largest sports association in Blekinge, with nearly 700 active players.
