Kronos Agiou Dimitriou

Agios Dimitrios, a suburb south of Athens, had no basketball club of its own until 1976, when more than forty friends from the local Brahami neighbourhood decided to put one together. That group formed Kronos, taking the name from the Greek word for Saturn, and became the first basketball club the town had seen.

The men's team built its record in the lower rungs of the Greek pyramid: the C' National Championship in 1989, two A' ESKAN Championships either side of the millennium, in 2000 and 2005, and three ESKAN Cups between 2001 and 2004. None of that matched what came in 2026, when the men won the B' National Championship and with it a place in the A2 division, the highest level the club has reached.

The women's section has followed a different path, settling into the top-flight A1 National League for what is now its fourth spell there, with 7th place in 2011-12 and again the following season standing as its high point. Underneath both senior sides sits a youth academy that has done the heaviest lifting for silverware: the women's youth teams took the Panhellenian Cadet Championship four times, in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2023, adding a Junior Girls title in the same year as that fourth cadet crown.

Games are still played in front of 400 people at most, at the New Indoor Gymnasium of Agios Dimitrios, and the club runs on little more than a Facebook and Instagram page rather than a website — a scale that has not stopped it fielding 26 teams and over 500 members. Among those who came through its ranks, Kostas Kaimakoglou is the name Kronos points to first.
