Panionios secured a straightforward 70-51 victory over Kronos Agiou Dimitriou in the Greek A2 League on Monday evening. The away side controlled proceedings throughout, building a lead that never really wavered. Kronos found no answer to the visitors' consistency, particularly in the second half where the gap opened further.
The result extends a difficult run for the hosts, who have not won since their last recorded fixture back in 2023. Their previous match saw them lose 88-67 to Golargos, and before that they fell 79-66 against Ayas Evoss mou. Things came to a head on Monday as the visitors took full advantage of the situation.
Panionios arrive in mixed form but showed they can still produce moments of quality. Their last five games include losses to Aris Saloniki, AEK Athens, AS Karditsa and Panathinaikos, but they did manage a 103-77 demolition of Iraklis Saloniki in early April. To be fair, that performance proved they are capable of scoring freely when conditions suit.
The visitors' defensive organisation was the difference on this occasion. They gave nothing away at the back while finding the right spaces in attack. By then the hosts had already accepted the outcome, and the final margin reflected the gulf in confidence between the two sides.
The result leaves Kronos further adrift in the table, while Panionios continue to search for consistency across the campaign. Seven goals separated the teams at the final whistle, a result that will do little to ease the pressure on the home side.
