Lavrio

The closest thing to a rivalry in Lavrio's history lasted four games: the 2020–21 Greek Basket League final against Panathinaikos, which the Athenian club won 3–1, closing it out 82–66. Lavrio never had a fixture with the bitterness of a derby — but that series against a club with vastly greater resources and history said plenty about how far the team from a mining town on the tip of Attica had climbed.

The nickname Metallorichoi, the Miners, points back to the silver deposits that once made Lavrio wealthy in antiquity, and the owl on the club crest echoes the coins Athens struck from that same metal. Founded in 1990, the club spent its first years working through the lower divisions, taking the fourth tier in 2006–07 and the third three seasons later before reaching the top flight, A1, in 2015. It stayed there for a decade, long enough to reach that 2021 final, before dropping back to the second tier in 2025.

Domestically the Miners play in front of 1,700 people at the Lavrio Indoor Hall; when European competition brought bigger crowds, the club shifted its games to the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus, a venue built to hold 12,000.

No player is tied to the club's name more than Alexandros Nikolaidis, developed through Lavrio's own ranks rather than bought in — the kind of player a small club points to when asked what it actually does well.
