A basketball side out of the northern Athens suburb of Psychiko took shape in 1985 around Dimitris Chouliarakis, who led it as president until his death in 2013. The club that grew out of that founding stayed small in the way its home ground did: the Psychiko Indoor Hall, now carrying his name, seats around 300.

Promotion has come in stages rather than all at once. The championship of the G' Ethniki, the third national division, arrived in 2012 and sent the club up to B' Ethniki; a further promotion the following year lifted it into the A2 Ethniki, the level at which it has played since and its highest to date. Between those steps sat the ESKA Cup, won twice, in 2009 and 2012.

Nikos Pettas came through the side during that same stretch, picking up a bronze medal with Greece's under-18 side between 2012 and 2014, while Nikos Papanikolaou has represented the national under-26 team since 2013, having already taken silver at the Mediterranean Games in 2009.

Blue and yellow remain the club's colours.
