The basketball department at Voula was set up in 1986, six years after the wider sports club had already taken shape, and for most of its life it has been built around one team: the women's side. Its case for attention rests on a single season. In 2012–13, while still playing in the second-tier A2 National Women's League, Proteas Voulas won the Greek Cup — a lower-division side taking the national knockout trophy. The A2 league title itself has come three times, in 2010, 2013 and as recently as 2022, with an earlier promotion via the B' National League in 1999 and two regional Southern Athens championships along the way.

The youth setup has produced its own run of success away from the senior team, with the Under-18 girls winning the national championship in their age group five times between 2014 and 2019.

The men's team took longer to make its mark. Promotion to the Greek Elite League for 2024–25 was the first time the men's side had reached that level in the club's history.

Matches are played at the Voulas Indoor Hall, known locally after George Genimatas, a ground that holds 190 spectators.
