Panerythraikos

When the section was set up in 1975, it inherited the identity the football side had already built: red and white, and a cross on the badge that gave the whole club its nickname, Stavroforoi, the Crusaders.

For years that identity meant more than any result did. What changed the picture was a run through the Athens regional ranks in the early 2000s: the C' Category title in 2000, then the B' Category in 2002 on the back of 24 straight games without a defeat, then the A' Category in 2003. Each step carried promotion with it, and by 2006 the climb reached the G' Ethniki, the third tier of the national pyramid, where Panerythraikos finished top and went up to the B' Ethniki for the first time in the section's history.

The team plays its games in a gymnasium built in 1994 and named for Stelios Kalaitzis, a hall that holds 500 people, small enough that a promotion push there is felt by everyone inside rather than read about afterwards. What it has kept is the shape of that one campaign in the early 2000s, three regional titles and a national one arriving inside six years, still the measure by which the club's basketball history is told.
