Esperos

Takis Kontouzoglou put his name behind a basketball section in 1945, two years after Kallithea's parent multi-sports club Esperos had already taken shape, and gave it the same blue and white worn by the two groups, Esperos Kallitheas and Iraklis Kallitheas, whose merger had formed that parent body.

The section spent its best seasons climbing rather than staying. Four Greek B League titles, won in 1978, 1980, 1982 and 1987, kept the club moving through the third tier, and in the 1998–99 season it took the Greek 2nd Division Championship, a result that carried it up into the top-flight Basket League. Esperos has reached that top division six times in all, but the last of those visits closed with the 1999–2000 season, and the club has not been back since. No Greek Cup has been won.

Games are played at the Esperos Indoor Gymnasium on Sophokleous Street. Alongside the senior side, the club has kept a girls' academy running for children aged four to twelve, a strand of the programme that has outlasted several of its promotion pushes.

Esperos now sits in the Greek A2 league and takes its place each season in the Greek Cup draw, still measured in Kallithea against the same neighbourhood name it grew out of, Iraklis Kallitheas, the other half of the colours it has carried since 1945.
