Le Mans U21

Le Mans is a city that knows what it means to feed a first team from underneath. The Espoirs side exists to make sure the pipeline never runs dry.

The reserve team traces back through a club that has rebuilt itself once already: MSB was formed in 1993 out of the old Sporting Club Moderne Le Mans, itself dating to 1939.

The names that matter here are the ones who left. Nicolas Batum came through the same academy before moving on to Pau-Orthez and into a career far beyond Sarthe, and Alain Koffi, French MVP in 2009, is remembered as proof the pathway actually works rather than just existing on paper. Jordan Bernard has coached the Espoirs since 2020.

Because the team plays in the LNB Espoirs U21 league, its rivalries are drawn from the same list as every other French club's reserve side, where the score matters less than which prospects hold their own against players a level above their age group.
