The basketball section traces back to the 1930s, an offshoot of the wider Lokomotiv Plovdiv sports club founded in 1926, and it had a first spell in the Bulgarian Championship between 1958 and 1964 before dropping out of the men's top flight. It stayed out for close to sixty years.
Locally they go by three names — the Black-and-Whites, the Railwaymen, and, most enduringly, the Smurfs — though there is no title in the club's history to attach to any of them; everything of note so far belongs to the season just gone.
Home games are played at Arena SILA, and beyond the NBL and the Cup, the club has also entered the FIBA Europe Cup.
