Maribor Women

ŽKD Maribor open the 2025-26 campaign in the 1. SKL Women still chasing a title that has never come their way, with the domestic cup providing the club's only real shot at silverware, a final against Cinkarna Celje scheduled for 25 February 2026.

The purple shirt goes back further than the current side does. A women's section carried the ŽKK Maribor name into Slovenian championships through the 1940s and 1950s, then folded during the 1987/88 season. The club that plays today grew out of that gap, and still counts the line back to 1946 as its own, calling it seventy years of tradition rather than dating itself from a re-formation nobody wrote down.

Cup finals have become something of a habit without becoming a source of joy. Maribor lost in 2008-09 to Merkur Celje, in 2015-16 to Athlete Celje, and twice more to Cinkarna Celje, in 2018-19 and 2021-22, kept knocking on the door without getting through it again. The one time it did open, in 2003-04, the opponent was also Merkur Celje.

Merisa Dautović, capped by the Slovenian national team, has anchored the roster since 2017. Home games are played at Dvorana Tabor, which held the WABA 2 Final Four in the 2024/25 season. That trust runs to 3,500 seats, but enough for the nights it needs to.

The scoreline from the one final Maribor actually won, back in 2003-04, still stands as the whole of the club's honours list: 77-65.
