Metallurg Magnitogorsk Women

The Dvorets Sporta imeni I. Kh. Romazana holds close to 3,000 for basketball, and it is where the club built its first season into a promotion.

The institutional line behind the name runs back to 1989, when a team called Kvant formed around the student side of Magnitogorsk State Technical University, then passed through half a dozen names — Incomcenter, Kredo-Academy, Kredo-University, Metallurg-University, Magnitka-University, Dynamo — before Metallurg stuck. The women's team as it plays now is a separate, much younger project: it was set up in the summer of 2024 and entered the Higher League that same season.

It did not take long to leave that division. Metallurg finished the 2025/2026 regular season with 30 wins from 36 games, then beat Spartak Moscow 67:62 in the final on 23 April 2026 to take the Higher League title and, with it, promotion to the Superleague. Sofya Frolova , the shooting guard, led the league in steals that same season. Head coach Maxim Sinelnikov arrived from the men's side of the club.

Chelyabinsk supplies the rivalry — games against Chelbasket and Slavyanka-CHKPZ are billed locally as the South Ural or Chelyabinsk Region derby.
