Orsk

The best season the club ever had did not come under its own name. Between 1996 and 2001, financial strain forced Yuzhny Ural into a joint team with Novotroitsk's Nosta, and it was as Nosta-Yuzhny Ural that the side won the Higher League final tournament in 1998/99, taking the Russian title, then reached the Federation Cup final the following season before losing to Krylya Sovetov. A runner-up finish in the RSFSR Cup in 1991 belongs to the years before that, when the club still stood alone.

The team traces back to a machine-building plant in Orsk, where it started out under the works' own name before a rename to Trud and then, within a few years, to Yuzhny Ural — the name it has carried ever since. The merger with Nosta ended in 2001, and the club went back to competing on its own, eventually settling into the VHL from 2010, with a quarter-final run in 2014/15 marking its best result there.

Vladislav Kamenev, born in Orsk, came up through the club before Nashville drafted him and he went on to win the Gagarin Cup with CSKA Moscow. The team has also fielded imports such as Cal O'Reilly and Mads Bødker over the years. Locally, the closest rival is Metallurg Mednogorsk, a tie sharpened by the two clubs once sharing a joint side at junior level.

Home games are played in blue, white and sand, colours tied to the plant that gave the club its start in 1958, when it was still known simply as Yuzhuralmash.
