Ostrow Wielkopolski

Stal began as a factory project. In the years after the Second World War, Polish sport was rebuilt around workplaces, and in Ostrów Wielkopolski that meant the Inter-Factory Sports Club "Stal" (Międzyzakładowy Klub Sportowy), a multi-sport body. Its basketball section opened in 1947. "Stal" means steel, and by the Polish habit of adding "-owcy" to a club's name, the players and fans became Stalowcy, the Steelworkers.

The rise to the top came late. Stal won the second-tier I Liga in 2015, went up to the Polish Basketball League (PLK) and has not dropped out of it since. The old Hala Sportowa Stal held 1,800 people. Arena Ostrów opened on 11 November 2020 with 3,086 seats.

In the 2020/21 final Stal faced Anwil Włocławek. Stal won, taking its first Polish championship, and Jakub Garbacz was named Finals MVP. Two more Polish Cups and a Supercup followed, and in 2023 the club won the European North Basketball League (ENBL), with Damian Kulig as its Finals MVP. Closer to home there is the Greater Poland derby against AZS Politechnika Poznań.

The same 2020-21 season also brought a FIBA Europe Cup final, which Stal lost. The club finished as runners-up again in the Polish Cup in 2024.
