Pyrinto Women

In 1983 Pyrintö won the Finnish Championship and the Finnish Cup in the same season. The league title was the club's first since 1958, so it came after 25 years without one. The cup has not returned to Tampere since.

The women's team had been founded in 1941 and reached the top quickly. It won the championship in 1950, and from 1953 to 1960 it finished on the podium in every season. Over those eight years it was champion four times, runner-up twice and third twice. The 1958 title was the last of that run.

The 1983 side did not stop at one title. It won again in 1984 and in 1986, which gave the club 8 championships in all. One player from these decades, Seija Leino, has had her jersey retired by the club.

The red-and-white Pyrinöt play in the Naisten Korisliiga, the Finnish women's top flight. They play at Pyynikin palloiluhalli, the Pyynikki Sports Hall, which holds up to 1,400 spectators. Pyrintö is the only top-division basketball team in Tampere, so there is no local derby on the calendar. Its rivalries are with clubs from other towns.

The 1986 title is the club's most recent.
