HBA-Märsky Helsinki Women

Urhea-halli in Vallila hosts several sports programmes under one roof, and it was there that a group tied to the Mäkelänrinne Sports High School put together a women's basketball side in 2011, with the HBA setup taking proper shape the following year.

HBA-Märsky have played in the Naisten Korisliiga, the top flight of Finnish women's basketball, ever since, at a hall that seats 1,100 in white and blue. The club has never taken the Finnish title or the cup. That changed in the 2025-26 season, when Helsinki reached the league final for the first time and lost 3-1 to Peli-Karhut — a runner-up finish, but the first silverware of any colour in the club's history, and one that carried a EuroCup Women place for 2026-27 with it.

What the club has produced more consistently than trophies is players. Awak Kuier came through the same Mäkelänrinne pipeline before HBA-Märsky, then went second overall to the Dallas Wings in the 2021 WNBA draft and later won a Finals MVP award in Italy. Sara Bejedi took the Naisten Korisliiga's Player of the Year award in 2019 and moved on to Panathinaikos.
