Ask supporters in Brno which final they still argue about, and the 2006 European final comes up first: Žabiny, playing under the sponsor name Gambrinus Brno at the time, beat Gdynia to take the EuroLeague Women title, the only European crown the club has won outright. It came sandwiched between two runners-up finishes, in 2005 against CSKA Moscow and in 2008 against Spartak Moscow Region.

None of it happened by accident. Coach Jan Bobrovský and manager Jiří Hamza set the club up in 1993 to carry forward a Brno basketball tradition going back to 1951. The frog on the badge, and the nickname that goes with it, trace back to Hala Rosnička — "the little frog hall" — where the team played early on; the green and orange kit kept the theme going after the move to the roomier Vodova arena.

Hana Horáková came through that era and stayed synonymous with it, the local name behind the 2006 win and later a Hall of Fame induction and a World Championship MVP award. Domestic form eventually cooled after 2010, but the cup remained a fixture — four wins between 2013 and 2023 — and the club found a new stage in 2022, beating SBŠ Ostrava to the European Women's Basketball League title.

Ostrava has since become the team Brno measures itself against in Europe, but the derby that matters at home is older and more local: against KP Brno, now playing as KP TANY Brno, a rivalry that needs no continental stage to draw a crowd.
