ZBL Women (Czechia) 2026/27

The ZBL Women competition, formally the Ženská basketbalová liga, stands as the premier tier for professional women's basketball in the Czech Republic. The league operates under the authority of the Czech Basketball Federation (Česká basketbalová federace, ČBF). Its structure for the 2025 season features a standard regular season where participants play each other twice. Following this, a supplementary stage divides the field into two groups based on standing, with the top eight teams advancing to the playoffs. These knockout phases consist of quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals, all decided through best-of-3 series. Historically, the championship has been dominated by two clubs. ZVVZ USK Praha holds the record for most titles, having secured 19 championships since the league's establishment in 1993. This includes a streak of five consecutive wins ending in the 2024/25 season. BK Žabiny Brno follows with 14 titles, notably including 13 straight championships from 1995/96 to 2007/08. These two entities have claimed every title awarded since the competition began, a pattern described as a monopoly on success within the region. The current iteration involves eight teams, including Basket Ostrava Women, Chomutov Women, and Nymburk Hradec Kralove Women. The league maintains a promotion and relegation system involving a playoff against the top two teams from the second-tier 1. liga ženy. This baráž format uses a round-robin style to decide which teams remain in the top flight or ascend from the lower division. The competition is currently sponsored by Chance, operating under the official name Chance Ženská basketbalová liga. The league replaced the earlier Czechoslovak Women's Basketball League, which had run since 1945, marking a new chapter in Czech women's sports following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia.
